Waco Laundry

When you're selling your home, you probably think about getting the kitchen, living areas, bedrooms, and bathrooms ready to look their best. Even though the laundry room may not be the first space that comes to mind when you're staging your home, this room is important to buyers. A fresh, bright, well-organized space will give them a good impression of not only your laundry room, but your entire home. On the other hand, a dingy, disorganized laundry room can leave them with a negative feeling.

Our real estate agents suggest the following tips for staging your laundry room so it makes the best impression on prospective homebuyers:

  • Get Rid of the Clutter
If you're like most people, your laundry room stores much more than your laundry essentials. It often becomes a catch-all for everything from a huge bag of dog food to a box of toys the kids have outgrown. Clutter makes your home look less than its best in any area, but in a small room, the effect is magnified. Move, toss, or donate anything that's not related to your laundry and keep only the essentials.

  • Put Your Clothes Away
People don't like their own dirty laundry and looking at - or smelling! - someone else's is even worse. Instead of leaving your dirty clothes in your laundry room, store them in a closed hamper in a closet or bedroom. Even clean clothes should be removed and put away since they'll make the room look more cluttered and will make it harder for buyers to picture themselves as the owners of your house.

  • Use Some Stylish Storage Items
Keep laundry items corralled in a stylish way with cute containers or baskets. For example, you can store detergent, fabric softeners, and clothespins in mason jars or other containers. Choose matching containers for a unified, pulled-together look.

  • Consider Closed Cabinets
If your laundry room has lots of shelves, consider replacing some of them with closed cabinets. This can make the room look less cluttered while also giving you the chance to add some color by painting them. In addition, you can change out their hardware to something more stylish.

  • Clean and Repaint
A laundry room can become dusty and dirty with dryer lint, detergent drips, and other messes, but it probably doesn't receive a deep clean as often as other areas of your home. Thoroughly wipe down the washer, dryer, and any shelves or cabinets. Also, sweep and mop the floor and clean or replace any small rugs you may have in your laundry room. Repainting the walls if they're looking dingy or scuffed can make the entire room look cleaner and brighter. And if you have dim lighting, replace what you have with higher lumens bulbs.

  • Check for Odors
Make sure your laundry room smells fresh and not like your kids' dirty sports uniforms. Place a couple of neatly folded towels on a shelf and tuck some dryer sheets in between them to give the room the smell of freshly washed and dried laundry.

  • Add a Few Accents
Although laundry rooms are typically small, think about adding just a few accents to give them some character. Wall art can help add charm, as can a small area rug. If you're lucky enough to have a window in your laundry room, think about adding or swapping out your curtains or blinds.
